I was casually browsing for interesting stuff to post here and came across this beauty
Moeetech just dropped the Glitter65 L01 and people are talking about the 40kHz polling rate. Quick disclaimer on the spec first: The product page says “40kHz Polling Rate, Up to 8kHz sampling.”
What that actually means is the onboard MCU scans the matrix at 40,000 times per second, and it sends data to your PC at up to 8,000Hz via USB. The 8K USB figure is still genuinely fast but the 40K figure is the internal scan rate, not what your computer actually sees. Still, here’s how it stacks up:
- Standard keyboard: 1,000Hz (1ms)
- High end gaming (Wooting, Razer, Corsair): 8,000Hz (0.125ms)
- Glitter65 L01: 8,000Hz USB / 40kHz internal (0.125ms / 0.025ms scan)
So what do you actually need to see any benefit?
Monitor: You need at least a 360Hz display to even start noticing the difference between 1K and 8K polling. At 360Hz each frame is ~2.7ms. A 1K keyboard adds 1ms of input lag on top of that. An 8K keyboard drops it to 0.125ms. The difference at 144Hz or 240Hz is pretty much academic.
CPU: High polling rates eat CPU cycles. There are plenty of reports of 8K keyboards causing stutter on older or mid range CPUs because the USB interrupts hit harder. 8K is already demanding. Make sure your system can handle it.
Game: Only competitive shooters where frames are tight (Valorant, CS2, Quake, Apex at high refresh) will show any difference. For typing, general use, or single player games it’s zero benefit.
Connection: Glitter65 L01 is wired only. No wireless option. That makes sense because wireless 8K is still rare (the Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro does it via UWB and that just hit EU).
The rest of the board: $149.99 barebone, CNC 6063 aluminum, hot swap, Vial support, USB hub and SD card reader built in, 65% layout. Pretty solid value for a metal case aluminum board even without the polling rate gimmick.
Is 40K/8K polling actually useful or is this just an arms race that peaked past the point anyone can feel? Curious what you all think.
