IQUNIX hired the fan who rendered the EC75

A Reddit user who rendered an unannounced IQUNIX board for fun has ended up making the official 3D promo for the EC75, the 75% Hall Effect keyboard IQUNIX put on sale in August.

The post went up on 15 September from u/PosaiDus_, who says the earlier fan render led to the commission. The animation was built in Blender, and the author answers one technical question in the thread: the easing came from the graph editor rather than the edit, with “a lot of trial and error” behind it. The replies are mostly people being pleased for them, which for a Promotional-flaired post on this subreddit is its own small achievement.

The board in the promo:

  • 75% layout, 80 keys, wired USB-C only
  • Hall effect sensing, 0.01mm to 3.1mm adjustable actuation, Rapid Trigger in 0.01mm steps
  • Diamond Pro magnetic switches, 35gf to 50gf, 3.3mm total travel, pre-lubed and hot-swappable
  • CNC aluminium top case over an injection-moulded bottom, gasket mount, three damping layers, flip-out feet at 2.8, 6 and 10 degrees
  • Cherry profile double-shot PBT keycaps, south-facing per-key RGB
  • 8kHz polling, three onboard profiles with three layers each

Why it matters. Launch renders are normally the part of the pipeline the community never sees. Hiring the person who already modelled your unreleased board costs a fraction of an agency brief and buys goodwill in the exact thread where the board will be judged. The account is flagged as a Brand Affiliate and the post carries the Promotional flair, so the disclosure sits where it should be, on the post itself.

The catch. A good animation is not a review. The EC75 launched in August at $179.99 and IQUNIX’s own store now lists it at $159.99, so the board has already taken one price cut, and it is wired only: no Bluetooth, no 2.4GHz, no battery, which is the trade for 8kHz polling in a 75% case.

Over to you: should more brands commission the community for launch art, or does it blur the line between a fan post and an ad?
